How Much Does Bush Get From Comedy Central???
2007 September 20
I finally realize what’s been going on all this time: Bush is on the take from Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and the rest of Comedy Central. He gets some fat cash slid under the table; CC gets material that no comedian could make up. There’s nothing else that can explain this (video at TP):
[Bush]: “I thought an interesting comment was made — somebody said to me, I heard somebody say, ‘Now, where’s Mandela?’ Well, Mandela’s dead because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas.”
For the record, Nelson Mandela is still alive while Saddam Hussein is dead.

How embarrassing for you. The President’s quote was a compliment to Mandela. A leader during tyranny who comes out the other side to lead his nation out of darkness. A moral man. None exist in Iraq. Saddam had them killed. That’s Bush’s point. He did not say Mandela has passed. It’s respectful to wish there was a Mandela in Iraq. Should we just not bring his name up until the 89 year old passes away? The original question that the President was referring to was someone asking: “Where is this region’s (middle east) Mandela?” Is that person to be derided as someone who mistakenly thought that a frail 89 year-old Mandela was making the rounds, dodging jihadists in Iraq? I really can’t believe that someone would have misunderstood the President’s evoking of Mandela’s name in his statement. I can believe this though:
As one of the legions of faceless, nameless, wise-ass, know-it-all bloggers to get yet another shot in at George Bush… you should be embarrassed. You should be embarrassed that you’re among a generation of kids who are getting their “news” snippets from YouTube, the daily show, and fellow bloggers.
I’m “embarrassed” that I live in a country where you can get impeached for enjoying a blow job but not for murdering hundreds of thousands of innocents over a pack of lies. Incidentally, the item in question came from TP, which is fairly rigorous about fact-checking (compare it with Drudge any day, for example), and guess what–Stewart’s show is more informative on the truth front than any of the 3 networks’ evening news shows.
But I am delighted to see they’ve got some righty-swingers at moveon. My blogging partner’s an old Republican, and I’m glad of it, too. It cost us a connection with BlogAds, the lefty ad broker run by Chris Bowers of MyDD: he said I’d have to get rid of the Republican and declare myself a Liberal blog if I wanted their business. I said go take a shit, pal, I don’t sell out. We’re going to need the whole political spectrum speaking up if we’re to give the human race a chance to survive on this planet.
So keep visiting and speaking up. But no, I am not embarrassed to be featuring stories from the Center for American Progress and the Daily Show.
i reviewed the comment from “Rico Bach.” what an asshole. disregarding what G Bush said about Mandela (his off the cuff remarks will never be compared to Jack Kennedy’s). but he is also wrong about the bloggers in this blog. both readers and hardly young. but there you go. if Bush’s few defenders are represented by Mr. Bach, then the next election will be a disaster for the few Republicans who want to run.
Um, T., jeez, I was trying to be diplomatic about it. To judge by his email address, the guy must work for moveon. If so, I think that reflects well on moveon. Obviously I agree that the guy came way over the top in defending Bush against yet another instance of presidential stupidity (that the MSM completely let go by without comment), but still I think he’s entitled to his spout, and after all, at least he’s reading us.
he may be free, but he made a bunch of invalid assumption (that we’re kids who get the news from the internet etc) so i feel just as free to comment back.
Well I don’t mind being mistaken for a kid. But then again, I’m single, so that only butters my bread. My main point, however, is that we shouldn’t be slinging around the anal epithets, even at Bush and Cheney (and I know I’ve been guilty of that myself). After all, think of it this way: when you call someone you don’t like an asshole, how do you think your own asshole feels about that, huh?
Remember that next time you’ve got constipation–it’s your asshole shutting down on you because you’ve insulted it by using its name to describe Dick Cheney. Even assholes have feelings.
i have posted a number of comments on various sites, mostly middle to left, and i guess i’m surprised by the number of people who take those who add comments as gen-xers or younger, so maybe i’m sensitive on this one. but i still feel the occasional need to hit back in kind.
