The Kerosene Brought Down From the Castles

The suicide of a CFO and now Krugman today, on the surreality of economic forecasts:

So Citigroup is profitable because investors think it’s failing, while Morgan Stanley is losing money because investors think it will survive. I am not making this up.

Who can appropriately comment on all this? From what quarter can we hope for a sane view? Ah, from that dark street of 1965 and the poet who foretold it all. Mr. Dylan, front and center:

Dr. Filth, he keeps his world
Inside of a leather cup
But all his sexless patients
They’re trying to blow it up
Now his nurse, some local loser
She’s in charge of the cyanide hole
And she also keeps the cards that read
“Have Mercy on His Soul”
They all play on penny whistles
You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
From Desolation Row

The entire masterpiece can be seen and heard here.
