Kubuntu Hardy, KDE 4 — First Look
Well there’s a look at Kubuntu 8.04 (alpha), Hardy Heron, the first Ubuntu flavor running KDE 4 only. I just installed it minutes ago and had a quick look around, and I have to say that my first impressions are not overwhelmingly positive. Sure, it’s pretty, but the navigation menus in the K-Menu are actually clunkier and less intuitive than those in KDE 3. The feature set and embedded apps are also rather slim, no doubt since development is still ongoing (and after all, it is only in alpha stage).
So this is definitely something worth following, but I wouldn’t dive right in yet, unless you’re an experimenter like me. And once again, if you’re a normal Joe Windows-user looking for an alternative, go with PCLOS, which will probably come out with a KDE 4 version of itself sometime this year. I don’t know how they do it, but I have news for you, Mark Shuttleworth — Texstar and his gang kick Kubuntu butt. Sorry, but that’s the truth.
